Replace Aged Equipment for the Fishing Derby

Lifejackets, fishing poles, tents and cooking equipment are all aging and needing gradual replacement with donations or purchase.

Annual Fishing Derby

For many guests and their caregivers, this is the event they look forward to all year.

Bus loads of Oakland County residents with mental and physical disabilities come from schools, group homes and other facilities to Dodge Park #4 on Cass Lake in Waterford for a day of fishing, boating and an afternoon picnic.  There is something for everyone, including dancing, music, face painting and characters in costume on the property.

This event has grown more than 10 fold since the first derby in 1987.

For the safety of all the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Dive Team, Marine Division and K-9 Unit donate manpower and services to run the event.  Waterford Fire Dept and EMS are on site every year on stand by during the event, insuring an immediate response if the need arises.

Recruit Active Board Members/Sponsors  from various industries in Oakland County

We are actively looking for a representation of the community we serve with board members from various industries and walks of life to contribute to our diversity of needs.

In order to grow our programs to reach more of our community we need to grow our sponsors that stand ready to meet that need. If the community comes together in these programs to reach out and develop our future adults with a helping hand we can make a difference.

Holiday Parties at New Horizons

For the mentally and physically disabled clients having a holiday party at their place of work is the highlight of their year. Complete with lunch, music, dancing and the ever treasured visit with Santa Claus.

Holiday Shopping Spree

In partnership with K-mart in Waterford, our organization sponsors a day of holiday shopping for nominated children  by social workers at their school. Qualifications include being disabled underprivileged children ages 5-15. Over the years this has become one of our most beloved events. Growing to almost 200 deserving children.

This event has been a part of our program since 1990 and is made possible by our partnership with K-Mart and our fundraising efforts.
