The Oakland County Sheriff's Office founded the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Benefit for the Disabled in 1987. We established this non-profit organization to sponor events and activities for adults and children with special needs that include mental and physical challenges in Oakland County, Michigan.
Our activities are run at no cost to the Sheriff's Department; all contributions made to our group are tax deductible and we are filed as a 501c3 non-profit organization.
Today we currently sponsor four annual programs in our calendar of events:
- Annual Fishing Derby held at Dodge Park #4 in Waterford, MI
- New Horizons* Holiday Party in Novi, MI
- New Horizons* Holiday Party in Auburn Hills, MI
- Holiday Shopping Spree for the disabled, underprivileged children with the cooperation of the Big K-Mart on Dixie Highway in Waterford, MI
*New Horizons is a non-profit organization that employs people who are mentally challenged.
The scope of these events requires our Board of Directors and volunteers to conduct year-round planning and fund raising activities.
